Vampires exist. It is the duty of Hellsing, an organization sponsored by the British government, to hide that frightening fact and protect the blissfully unaware populace. Along with its own personal army, Hellsing also has a few secret weapons. Alucard, an incredibly powerful vampire, has been controlled by Hellsing for years. Although he dislikes being a servant to the Hellsing family, he certainly enjoys his job as HellsingÂ’s vampire exterminator. Seras is a fledgling vampire and a former police woman. Although reluctant to embrace her new self, she is still a valuable member of the organization. Integra Hellsing, the current leader, is usually fully capable of fulfilling her duty, but lately, vampire activity has been on the rise. Unfortunately, the cause is more alarming than anything she could have imagined. A group long thought dead has been plotting in secret since their apparent destruction over 50 years ago. Plotting to plunge England, and perhaps the entire world, into war.

Amazing artwork, wonderful characters, great story, perfect villains, and it never disappoints. Ultimately, this is the perfect example of a sennin manga done right. The hero is a wonderful case of an anti-hero that has flaws, he doesn't fight for any side except for his master, and ultimately proves to be more mysterious than anything else in the manga. Some might find him a tadbit overpowered, but he doesn't show his hand all at once, and even he has his moments of nearly losing to the great antagonists. Ultimately, he shows that even the hero has darker secrets and can be even more sadistic and villainous than even the villains themselves.

The story flows through, it can be understood as being more than just small arcs in a story. From beginning to end, it moves beautifully and seamlessly. The other characters are just as interesting, from Seras, to Maxweel... to even the Major himself. They're all amazing, flawed, and beautiful for their imperfections. No one is perfect, no one is on the side of the greater good, and ultimately... it is all about what you like in a character.

For some of you who've watched the old TV series from Gonzo, you can see some parts that are exactly parallel to the manga, but it ends in a wonderful way that helps tie up all of those plotholes that the TV series ended up leaving open.

There isn't really any negatives I can think about... but if you dislike gore, heavy subject matter, and disturbing scenes... then this isn't the manga for you.

Otherwise, I can't say this enough... this manga is a must-read for anyone who enjoys the sennin genre. You will never be disappointed, except for the fact when you reach the end, you will be wanting more. However, that is a great thing... it ends in an appropriate place, never running too long and becoming stale, or never cutting off and leaving you disappointed.
