Ignore the Synopsis! In short, this manga has all the action of Naruto/Bleach/One Piece with very clever ideas and writing as Death Note.

High hopes, but it is true, and here is why:

The main character is different. Many characters in the other mangas are usually complete idiots, but they do the right thing by instinct. Negi Springfield, on the other hand, is a very smart, and complicated thinker. He faces serious questions about his morals and methods throughout the manga.

The girls are not flat. Each of them have a distinct personality and role. In the beginning, many of them are cliched, but when an individual girl gets serious "screen time" they are brought out of the 2D personality and truly show who they are as people (Yue is my favorite). Most of them also have strong relationships to others and it really shows (but I think the Konoka-Setsuna relationship needs to be toned down)

The writing is excellent and unpredictable, usually. Much of the story revolves around Negi's interaction with his class, but when the action is thrown to full-gear, he makes surprising choices. There were literally times where I couldn't believe what he did and how he intended to pull it off.

The action is top-notch. Looking for huge fights in arenas, air battles, and the main setting, well here you go. All the action here is fast and believable in this universe, similar to the big 3.

In short, give this one a chance. While I have a few gripes (Negi blowing off clothes by accident for one), everything in this manga is great in terms of action and story. If you are a fan of strong relationships, here you go, and they only get stronger. If you find the relationships in the beginning a little boring or tiresome, I suggest skimming the first few volumes. There are amazing gems hidden inside this manga!
